Pravina Jayapal, Azizah Omar, Mahmod Sabri Haron

ABSTRACT

The purpose of this paper is to develop a research framework based on previous literature review related to perceived values, materialism and online impulse buying behaviour among Generation Y, which is supported by the StimulusOrganism-Response Model. In this paper, three components of perceived value from the theory of consumption values by Sheth et al. (1991) have been utilised due to its relevance to the impulse buying context, namely, social value, emotional value and epistemic value. The social value is further divided into social bridging and social bonding which is derived from the theory of social capital. Furthermore, materialism functions as the mediator between perceived values and online impulse buying behaviour. This paper expects to assist practitioners and academicians in gaining further understanding on online impulse buying behaviour. The present paper serves as one of the early studies on perceived values, materialism and online impulse buying behaviour and among the few addressing Generation Y in Malaysia. Finally, this study adds to the existing literature on the mediating effect of materialism towards perceived values and online impulse buying behaviour.

Hasnizam Shaari, Tan Yew Kuan

ABSTRACT

In this millennium, more and more consumers enlightened and empowered than before. Consumers had placed a greater demand from marketers to produce more innovative, hygiene and safer products to fulfil their needs and wants. For instance, organic foods are not new to the food industry and became one of buzz-word in todays‟ emerging market. Despite the increasing trend on supply of such organic foods, demand of organic foods are relatively small especially in the developing countries such as Malaysia. Underpinned by Theory of Planned Behavior, this study attempts to examine the relationship between attitude towards organic foods, environmental concern and consumer‟s knowledge on intention to purchase organic foods. A study among 117 consumers in Kubang Pasu, Kedah revealed that only environmental concern plays a significant role in explaining intention to purchase organic foods. Both attitude and consumer‟s knowledge towards organic foods have insignificant influence intention to purchase organic foods. Hence, based on the result and considering previous literatures, further empirical evidence is needed to confirm either attitude towards organic foods is ethnic-centered and ecoliteracy is more relevant in explaining intention to purchase organic foods in Malaysia.

ABSTRACT

The purpose of this study is to investigate the antecedents that influence the relationship between Malaysian SME exporters and foreign intermediaries which could potentially lead to exporters’ performance. Previous studies have reported inconsistent findings for these critical factors (cultural similarity and relationship quality). Hence, this study examined the mechanism by which cultural similarity can led to export performance by focusing on three antecedents and one mediating factor (trust). This study applied the Internationalisation Process (IP) theory and the Relational Exchange Theory (RET) as the underpinnings theories. A quantitative method was implemented in this current study whereby primary data was derived from 203 SME manufacturing exporting firms in Malaysia. Structural Equation Modelling using SmartPLS technique was used for the data analysis. The results indicated that all the antecedents proposed in this study have a positively significant influence relationship. The findings also showed the relevance of the integrating theories to explain the export performance of Malaysian SMEs which use foreign intermediaries.
